Mammootty, Kavya bag awards

Kozhikode, April. 18 (UNI): Megastar Mammootty and upcoming actress Kavya Madhavan, have been selected for the first 'A T Abu Smaraka Puraskaram' for best actor and actress respectively.

While Mammootty bagged the award for his outstanding performance in "Kazhcha," and "Vesham," Kavya got the honour for her role in "Perumazhakkalam," A T Abu Smaraka Samathi Chairman Marakkar Thamarasseri, announced at a press conference here today.

"Achhuvinte Amma," produced by P V Gangadharan under the banner of Grihalakshmi productions has been adjudged the best film, while Kamal got the best director award for 'Perumazhakkalam' and Scriptwriter T A Razzak for "Perumazhakkalam" and "Vehsham."

Mala Aravindan and Swapna Satyan have been selected as best supporting actor and actress respectively.

A T Abu Prathiba Puraskaram would be bestowed on Sajeevan Nambiyath for his contribution to the industry during the past one and-a-half decades whereas film and small-screen actress Rema Devi, has been selected for a special award.

Best anchor award would be given to producer Ramachandran, for his programme "Saakhshi" being telecast by Kairali satellite channel.

The award, instituted in the memory of well-known Malayalam film director Abu, would be presented at Perinthalmanna in Malappuram district on his first death anniversary on June 26, Mr Marakkaar added.
